A significant number of Kerala’s population depends on the fisheries industry for their livelihoods. Yadhukrishna and Akhila will be exploring this traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) to understand fisherfolk perspectives on coastal and marine biodiversity conservation in Thrissur and Kollam, Kerala.

Yadu is from a fisherfolk family in Thrissur, Kerala. His educational journey includes specializing in aquaculture during his undergraduate years and marine biology for his master's degree. Post-graduation, he worked on projects related to fisheries. By documenting traditional practices, Yadu aims to bridge the generational gap, allowing younger individuals to reclaim their identity and heritage.

Akhila George is a Marine Biology post-graduate, from Sasthamcotta in the Kollam district of Kerala.  Her determination to work for her community was born out of seeing the struggles of her community when she was growing up. She is passionate about preserving traditional fishing knowledge.
